Many people in the world have dreams, but they also have many problems. They have the right to be happy, but sometimes life is very hard.
Tupac Amaru, in his song "Keep Ya Head Up", gives advice to a woman who is suffering. He says: "Please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up." This means she has the strength to continue. She has value. The song also asks important questions about violence: "Why we rape our women? Do we hate our women?"
These lyrics connect directly to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Every person has the right to dignity (Article 1). All of us have the right to life, liberty, and security (Article 3). Violence against women is a crime because they have the right to be safe. No one has the right to hurt another person.
Tupac also says: "And when he tells you you ain't nothin', don't believe him." This is very important. The Declaration says everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law (Article 6). You have a name, you have a history, and you have importance. Your feelings and your body are yours. You have the right to be respected.
When Tupac sings, "And if he can't learn to love you, you should leave him," he is talking about freedom. In the Declaration, Article 16 says that men and women have the right to marry and to found a family. But they also have the right to free consent. If there is no love, you have the right to go.
In the end, Tupac’s message is the same as the message of the Declaration: we all have hope. We all have rights. We all have the right to keep our heads up.
